Safety Robot Data Flywheel

The Safety Robot Data Flywheel can solve unexpected problems with your robot setup by just investigating a single failure case.

Autonomous robots currently fail if their setup is even slightly changed. In this project, we investigate how we can fix failures that the robot experienced in deployment.

Our key insight is that we can explain the reasons for failures by testing how sensitive the robot agent is to changes in the environment.

Optical Fiber Cable Management for Datacenter Maintenance 

This project aims to create a robotic platform that can maintain the equipment inside a datacenter. Currently, to fix issues inside one of these data centers, a technician has to enter a hot, noisy, and cramped environment and manipulate a wide variety of cables, connectors, and switches.

A robotic platform that could diagnose system issues and perform the delicate manipulation tasks required to fix them would improve system uptime, reduce wasted energy, and increase data security.

The system uses compliant force control to safely grab onto and insert the delicate cable headers. Eventually, integration of both autonomous operation and haptically-guided remote operation modes will maximize the range of tasks the system can accomplish.
